The match: Patriots vs. Lions – why this matchup matters

The New England Patriots are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history – seven Super Bowl titles, the Tom Brady era, the Bill Belichick coaching dynasty. The current team is rebuilding around young quarterback Drake Maye, widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in the league.

The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, are the team of the moment. After decades of struggle, Detroit under head coach Dan Campbell has transformed into one of the most thrilling teams in the NFL. With a formidable offensive line-up and Amon-Ra St. Brown as their international standard-bearer, the Lions are expected to deliver a spectacle in Munich.

Amon-Ra St. Brown – Germany’s NFL star comes to Munich

Amon-Ra St. Brown was born in Los Angeles to a German mother and a former professional bodybuilder father. He grew up between two cultures, speaks fluent German, and is by far the most well-known NFL player in Germany. As a Pro Bowl wide receiver and one of the most consistent pass-catchers in the league, he alone draws an enormous German fan base. When he takes the field at the Allianz Arena on 15 November, it will be one of the most emotional moments the Munich crowd has ever seen at an NFL game.

The NFL in Munich – history and what comes next

Munich has been a fixture on the NFL’s European calendar since 2022. The inaugural game – Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seattle Seahawks – proved so successful that it led to a permanent partnership with the FC Bayern München Stadium. A second game followed in 2024, and the relationship is set to continue: a further NFL game in Munich is already confirmed for 2028.

The numbers tell the story: every previous Munich Game sold out within minutes. Demand far outstrips supply – anyone wanting tickets for 2026 should have 10 July marked clearly in their calendar.

Getting to the Allianz Arena

Driving to the Allianz Arena on match day is not recommended – parking near the stadium is extremely limited for NFL events, and public transport is by far the easiest option:

  • U-Bahn: U6 to Fröttmaning – direct access to the stadium, approximately 20 minutes from Marienplatz
  • From the main station (Hauptbahnhof): U1 to Sendlinger Tor, change to U6 towards Fröttmaning
  • From Marienplatz: U6 direct to Fröttmaning (no change required)
  • Deutschlandticket: valid on all MVV lines

On major event days at the Allianz Arena, additional MVG trains are scheduled – the U6 runs significantly more frequently from the afternoon onwards.
